Food Sensitivity Testing

In our clinic we offer two types of food sensitivity testing, blood and electrodermal.

Service

Blood Food Sensitivity Testing

This test involves the patient getting a requisition from their practitioner and going to an external lab to have blood drawn.  The lab measure levels of IgG antibodies to over 220 different foods.  All foods have antigen molecules on them which can either be accepted by the immune system or actually trigger an immune response.  If an immune response is triggered and IgG antibodies are produced this is deemed a food sensitivity.  In contrast if an immune response is triggered and IgE antibodies are produced then this is more towards a food allergy (which is not measured in this test).  The lab then generates a report detailing the level of IgG production to various foods and this is shared with the patient.  The turnaround time for this test varies from 1-2 weeks.  Depending on the number of foods tested the cost can range from $280 to $400.

Electrodermal Food Sensitivity Testing

The BioScanMSA System has several options of styluses which can be used for point testing. Over 840 acupuncture points are programmed into the IHT Software including dental and ear points. The Practitioner selects the desired acupuncture point on a high definition graphic image in the software and applies the stylus to that acupuncture point on the Client. The Client completes the electrical circuit by holding a HandMass and the GSR measurement reading is recorded by the BioScanMSA software. The conductivity for the meridian is collected by the BioScanMSA software and interpreted by the Certified Practitioner as an indication of acute or chronic stress within the meridian.

With this BioScan program we are able to measure the frequencies with various preprogrammed substances, including foods, to see if the body is intolerant to them or not.  This test does not test for food allergies but it is a option for testing for food intolerances.

Here are some tests that are offered at our clinic.

Dutch Complete Urinary Hormone Test

A dry urine test that can give a comprehensive assessment of an individuals sex hormones, cortisol levels and adrenal hormone metabolites in the body.

GI Map Stool Analysis Test

A stool analysis test that uses quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to detect various parasites, fungi and bacteria in the sample. Useful to get a better understanding of an individuals gut microbiome and underlying digestive concerns.

FST IgG Food Sensitivity Test

A blood test used to detect levels of IgG antibodies against different foods

Electrodermal Food Sensitivity testing

Using the concept of Galvanic Skin Response, the MSAS device is able to emit frequencies of various foods and put them against the galvanic skin response of the various acupuncture meridian points.  From this we can see if a person’s body is receptive to the frequency of a food or not. Many patients who do not want to have blood drawn to evaluate their food sensitivities find this to be a painless alternative.  No test is 100% accurate but we have found that Electrodermal Food Sensitivity testing gives a good idea of what foods a person can tolerate and not tolerate.  The results of this test are ready by the end of the visit and typically the cost is included as part of the visit.

Clinical Acupuncture

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions are treated by acupuncture?

  • Acupuncture for Pain
  • Acupuncture for stress and Mental health
  • Acupuncture for reproductive health
  • Acupuncture for Digestion Conditions
  • Acupuncture for symptom relief of other common health conditions

Does clinical acupuncture hurt?

No acupuncture should never be painful! Although every practitioner has their own style, all of our therapists share the same belief that if you are uncomfortable while receiving care, your body won’t heal. We encourage patient feedback to let us know if a point doesn’t’ feel good or is painful and we’ll adjust the needle or remove it. Clinical acupuncture needles are SUPER thin and not meant to do anything else than stimulate a tiny spot.

How long do the needles stay in?

Needle retention depends on your condition and what other modalities  we are incorporating into your treatment (such as cupping). Usually we retain needles anywhere between 10-30 minutes.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

That depends on how long you have had a condition and how severe it is. The longer and more serious a condition is, usually will indicate you will require more treatments. We do find that the sweet spot is usually around 3-5 sessions to start seeing results whether that be a reduction in pain, increased mobility etc. We will have a better idea of how many acupuncture treatments you will require after we assess your health intake and complete the first session.  We will work with you to make sure you can manage bookings that align with your budget and schedule. We rarely suggest patients come more than 1/week.  We do not believe in high pressure or over booking tactics.

Do certain therapists have particular specialties?

No. We are strong at treating health conditions and are experienced at providing all of our core services including cupping, cosmetic acupuncture, moxibustion, gua sha and facial cupping. To help you choose a therapist you can learn more about our individual education and experience in our bio section.

We are a general, high-volume clinic and all of us can effectively treat any condition for a clinical acupuncture appointment. We are experienced at fixing all health conditions. Our reputation for hiring skilled and caring practitioners that can help any health condition extends to all therapists that work at The Bronte Naturopathic Detox & Wellness Centre . The only difference in “specialties” would be that some of us don’t offer Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine.
