My DC are academic and while I could say these things don’t matter the truth is I’m secretly delighted.

It’s also a bit weird on the motorway, faced with a long slow hill, to have to change gear when doing 70mph. Otherwise it’s get into the inside lane and crawl along. But the biggest put-off (apart from performance on hills) is the centre console.

I’ve driven this car from new, which is 7 years’ worth of experience. It’s been extremely reliable and very economical, averaging 64 mpg over that time. Although I’ve never driven it on a really long trip (several hundred miles), I’d be happy to do so; I don’t get the impression that it would be particularly tiring. Almost all those mini computer companies, Data General for one, there were a bunch of them. That’s when a lot of people hadn’t realized that Microsoft was so much of a software factory. The Toyota iQ is a great car for driving around town and be able to park really easily. I can even take my partner shopping and get in a good weekly shop when the seats are down. However, if you want to take 3 passengers and luggage, everything would become a sqeeze.
